DEWALT D26451K 3 Amp 5-Inch Random Orbit Sander with Cloth Dust BagIn this video, we visit the workshop of Jacobo and Maria Angeles, San Martin Tilcajete in Oaxaca, Mexico. The Angeles are traditional artisans, small wood carvings to create a "Alebrijes known." These sculptures are a family affair and all members of the family contribute Angeles to the carving and painting process. In creating the craft villages Alebrijes, which are considered to be one of the best of San Martin Tilcajete. These art works are mythical creatures withOrigin traceable to ancient Mexican religious convictions, by a variety of animal and human characteristics and are thought to embody the spirit of a god or protective force. To the wooden carvings, mature wood of the tree is cut copalillo in short pieces. The twisted branches inspire the artistic imagination. Forms will be roughed with machetes and then refined with rudimentary knife. A small figure maybe five hours to carve, in order, while could be a larger piece of 30 inches or more 3 takeDays. The figure is smooth sanded, treated and dried thoroughly before painting. Over the base coat, patterns of intricate brush strokes and dots are applied. A maguey cactus thorn is sometimes used JAB up to two or three thousand points per figure. Each piece is unique in size, color and design, carefully created by hand.
